Description:

The Essence of Mahler Performance, Backed by a Rich Tradition! Sieghardt & the Arnhem Philharmonic’s “Tragic” Released on Hybrid SACD by EXTON! The Arnhem Philharmonic, the flagship orchestra of the eastern Dutch province of Gelderland, is a prestigious ensemble with a history spanning over 100 years since its founding in 1889. It holds the distinction of being the first orchestra in the Netherlands to perform Mahler. Now, the Arnhem Philharmonic presents *Tragic* in collaboration with its current principal conductor, Sieghardt, who was born and raised in Vienna. This is a passionate performance that powerfully brings to life the voices hidden within the work. Speaking of this duo, last December they released their EXTON debut album—the first domestic release featuring Schubert’s “Unfinished” and “Great” symphonies. Above all, their heartfelt performance, which fully embraced Schubert’s overflowing melodies, captivated a wide audience. In particular, the exceptionally clear recording swept the “Best Recording” awards in numerous specialist magazines. This time, EXTON’s already top-quality recordings—which burst with the immediacy of a live performance—have been taken to the next level with a striking DSD multi-track recording. The devastating sound of the hammer strikes is said to possess an intensity that stands as a landmark in the recording history of this piece. In addition to standard CD stereo audio, this album includes three audio tracks: SACD stereo and SACD multichannel. It is often said that 2-channel stereo is best for appreciating the sharpness of direct sound and the intricate details of the instruments, while multichannel audio is ideal for experiencing the overall atmosphere resonating through the hall; comparing and enjoying these different formats is a unique pleasure offered by hybrid SACDs. ・Mahler: Symphony No. 6 “Tragic” Arnhem Philharmonic Orchestra Martin Sieghardt (Conductor) Recording: December 19, 21–23, 2003, DSD Recording Venue: Concertgebouw de Vereniging, Nijmegen
