Dawn Richard (Danity Kane, Diddy—Dirty Money) has completed a new album produced in collaboration with Catalyst, a music collective that supports major artists. *Creole Culture*, an album that explores her hometown of New Orleans, is being released by Merge Records. Dawn Richard, a versatile artist described by The New York Times as “constantly evolving and impossible to pigeonhole,” is releasing her new album, *Creole Culture*, on Merge Records. Deeply rooted in history yet looking toward the future, *Creole Culture* draws inspiration from the roots of Richard—who is of Black and Native American descent—and her lifelong connection to music and music-making. Following *New Breed* (2019) and *Second Line* (2021), this album feels like the third panel of a triptych. *Creole Culture* is a work that blends triumph and tragedy, sensuality and melancholy, confidence and introspection. The album presents Richard’s vision of New Orleans as a utopian soundscape—a mesmerizing fusion of R&B, soul, hip-hop, pop, and jazz. It is a soundscape that has survived and thrived despite facing dystopian circumstances. On *CreoleCulture*, Richard served as co-executive producer, collaborating with Katalyst. Katalyst is an Inglewood-based music collective founded by drummer/producer Greg Paul, comprising world-class songwriters, producers, and musicians who have collaborated with artists such as Beyoncé, Kendrick Lamar, Solange, Jay-Z, Lizzo, Usher, and Anderson .Paak. Their musical depth undeniably expands the vision of *Creole Culture* beyond genre boundaries. The album features guest appearances by Big Freedia, Anjelika “Jelly” Joseph, Tarriona “Tank” Ball, and Durand Bernarr. In contrast to the powerful brass sounds found in Richard’s previous work, this album conveys a softer impression. This evolution can be seen as the result of her realizing, while exploring New Orleans, that her own perspective—a crucial element—had been missing.
