In fact, “Groove Me” was also recorded at Malaco Studios, and this album—featuring the Memphis Horns and other former Stax musicians—is packed with rich, Stax-style grooves. Led by the funky soul track M6 “I Feel Like Dynamite”—which bears a strong influence from James Brown—and featuring his signature groove-oriented tracks, as well as the dazzling sound of M1 “Movin’ On Strong,” where you can lose yourself in the magnificent sound, all the way to tracks with a hint of reggae—this is an album brimming with Southern pride, released during a slump in Southern soul.
