Two and a half years after their previous album—which became one of the defining albums of the 2020s—the Asheville-based alternative rock band Wednesday has completed their new album. Titled *Bleeds*, the new album—once again produced by Alex Farrer—is being released via Dead Oceans. Wednesday is releasing their highly anticipated new album, *Bleeds*, via Dead Oceans. A captivating collection of narrative-driven Southern rock, this album thoughtfully explores the vivid connection between curiosity and confession—much like many of the most memorable songs in this North Carolina-based band’s discography. *Bleeds* is a masterpiece that skillfully weaves together literary allusions, outlaw spirit, place-based poetry, and spine-tingling noise into a patchwork tapestry. Karly Hartzman, the band’s founder, frontwoman, and principal lyricist, says that Wednesday was able to firmly establish its identity thanks to collaborations on past albums and a demanding yet rewarding tour schedule. Like *RatSawGod*—one of the defining rock ’n’ roll records of the 2020s—*Bleeds* was produced at Drop of Sun in Asheville by Alex Farrar, who has handled production since *Twin Plagues*. Hartzman once again brought demo tracks to the studio, where she and her bandmates—Xandy Chelmis (lap steel, pedal steel), Alan Miller (drums), Ethan Baechtold (bass, piano), and Jake “MJ” Lenderman (guitar)—worked together as a team. They amplified the songs by incorporating a perfect balance of authentic country, indie-pop hooks, and noisy sludge. And more than ever before, that precise balance was influenced by the lyrics. This is due not only to the tone and themes, but also to the very resonance of the words themselves, as well as Hartzman’s masterfully subjective approach to selecting details.
