POND, a psychedelic rock band formed in Perth, Australia, centered around former Tame Impala member Nick Allbrook, has completed their 11th album, *Terrestrials*, to be released on their own label. POND has announced the release of their latest album, *Terrestrials*. The album will be released via Secretly Distribution on their newly established label, Mangovision. Comprising Nick Allbrook, Jay Watson, Joe Ryan, Jamie Terry, and James Ireland, this group exists for the sake of creation. There are countless intersections between their individual projects and the scene they first brought to the world, and this continues to this day. And that pursuit will undoubtedly continue forever. However, for the first time in POND’s history, a simple set of rules was imposed on the recording process for their 11th album: no fuzz pedals, no ballads, and no Pink Floyd-esque stuff. Born out of a tribute to a particularly powerful era of Australian rock, *Terrestrials* delves into the sounds of the vast, melancholic sky, the heat haze hanging over the plains, and the backrooms of rowdy pubs. Anyone familiar with that sound, that era, and that place will feel an emotion that resonates in their heart forever. From there, *Terrestrials* evolved, and the idea of “pub goth” became the stylistic guide for the album. It fuses the iconic 1980s Australian sound with the eyeliner-smudged post-punk of bands like Sisters of Mercy and Magazine. Like many of Pond’s records, *Terrestrials* is an album that explores people and places, their respective identities, and where and how they intersect and interact. Exploitative capitalism, power structures, inequality, the incarceration of Indigenous peoples, eccentric outsiders, fire and water, diesel and dust, unity and division, blood and bauxite, tomorrows never born and yesterdays gone by... it’s all there. *Terrestrials* depicts the despair of people and the planet on the brink of crisis with a sense of urgency, yet ultimately places its hope in the beauty of both, which brings victory.
