Work Money Death, a spiritual jazz band in the spirit of Pharaoh Sanders and Alice Coltrane, releases its latest album, "A Portal to Here"! A Portal to Here" by Work Money Death is an ambitious work that inherits and updates the spirituality of spiritual jazz pioneered by Pharaoh Sanders and Alice Coltrane from a 21st century perspective, The liberating improvisations and soulful rhythms of this work evoke a sense of healing and transcendence through music.Created as a memorial to guitarist Chris Earl Dawkins, who passed away suddenly in 2025, all four songs reflect the spiritual journey the band and studio have been on. The uplifting and subdued nature of the flute and tenor saxophone, and the festive nature of the San-La-like horn arrangements, bring a deep empathy and emotional release similar to Pharaoh Sanders' work. Here is a musical experience that begins quietly and culminates in prayer.
