Dub engineer and scientist known for his work with King Tubby and the Hookim brothers of Channel One. This is a compilation of tough tracks from the late 70s and early 80s, just before everything went digital. Scientist (Overton Brownie, born in Jamaica in 1960) was in many ways a protégé of King Tubby, and his interest in recording grew as he watched the many sessions taking place at Tubby's studio, Dromilly Avenue, He learned the ropes as musicians came and went. His first hit was a mix of Barrington Levy's "Collie Weed," and his reputation was built on the many versions he cut at Tubby's studio and became the engineer of choice. His simple mixing style matched the new dancehall reggae sound that emerged in the late 1970s and 1980s. Following his work with King Tubby, Scientist worked as chief engineer for the Hookim brothers at the powerful Channel 1 studio, where he worked on many of top producer Henry 'Junjo' Lawes' songs and had a string of hits. This album is a compilation of tough tracks from the late 70s and early 80s, just before everything went digital. (From the manufacturer's info.)
