It's a lofty subject for a young songwriter, but like all themes at the heart of the Sudanese-Canadian artist's work (from religious devotion to childhood trauma, gang violence to romantic intimacy), he approaches it through a personal lens. Says Mustafa of the sprawling, 12-song effort, "A lot of my life is encapsulated in this album."Blending genres and moods, weaving novel-like details into instantly memorable folk songs, he has created a record that sounds like a series of personal breakthroughs.
