The Pernice Brothers are an indie rock band formed in Boston around Joe Pernice. Five years after their last release, Joe Pernice has completed a new album, "Who Will You Believe," produced in the face of the death of a friend. catalog of daring reinterpretations and reimaginings of classic American pop. Who Will You Believe" may be his most moving and nuanced album to date. All of these songs were written around the same time. I can be in a certain state for three or four months. I can be more reticent or more extroverted than usual. On my albums, and especially on this one, the songs all seem to be with those times," Joe says. For six months, he was reeling from the deaths of three close friends.The group includes David Berman, poet/songwriter for Silver Jews and Purple Mountains, and Gary Stewart, co-founder of Rhino Records and a supporter of the Pernice Brothers since their first album in 1998. My cousin Joe Harvard, who started the studio Fort Apache in Boston and was like a brother to me, also passed away. It was a really tough year. I thought about them often and saw how divided America was. Joe Pernice had been releasing albums for over 25 years. As he has aged, he has also grown in patience and immense appreciation for the act of creation. He demonstrates a beautiful balance of sadness and solemn moments with warm humor and camaraderie in Who Will You Believe?
