Elder Ones third album "New Monuments" led by Amirta Kidambi released on We Jazz! A work that evokes "tearing down old colonial and racist monuments and vestiges"! Amirta Kidambi is a Brooklyn-based vocalist and keyboard harmonium player. Her spiritual jazz band, the Elder Ones, will release their third full-length album, "New Monuments," on the Finnish jazz label We Jazz. The band has been immersed in mass demonstrations throughout New York City in the wake of George Floyd's murder in the summer of 2020, and has formed as a response to the violent presence of a militarized police force. This third album, produced at Figure Eight Studios above Prospect Park in Brooklyn, is an evocation of "tearing down old colonial and racist monuments and vestiges of power, and building new monuments to the martyrs of the struggle.Third Space, written in response to the Atlanta Spa shooting in 2021, in which a white man targeted and killed an Asian woman; farmers' protests over agrarian reform in India; the development of the Iranian women's rights movement after the death of Mahsa Amini; and the ever-increasing calls for the liberation of Palestine. The album includes four songs that draw attention to the many sites of interrelated global conflicts, including farmers' protests over agricultural reform in India, the development of the Iranian women's rights movement after the death of Mahsa Amini, and the ever-growing calls for Palestinian liberation. Artwork is by Justin Hopkins.
