They are pioneers in the sense that they changed the concept of what music should be for many people. I decided to do something a little different and came up with Erik Satie. This was an opportunity to really get intimate with the piano. Satie is a really special case, a mysterious musician who is different from all the others. This album, which was recorded in an intimate space, brings a pleasant tension and relaxation to our daily life. The album "Letter(s) to Erik Satie" by Bertrand Chamayou pays tribute to two singular, innovative, and influential composers: Erik Satie, born in Normandy in 1866, and John Cage, born in Los Angeles in 1912. There is said to be a close relationship between the two, and Cage apparently considered Satie a source of inspiration.The album begins with "The Whole Surface of Pebbles for Erik Satie," discovered among the belongings secretly given by John Cage to his student James Tenney as a koan (a riddle with no correct answer used in Zen questions and answers). Satie's "Gymnopédie" and "Gnosienne" are the mainstay of this album, coexisting with John Cage's works, and developing in a way that they embrace each other with deep affection, without any discomfort at all. Miraval Studio, where this album was recorded, is an old castle in Provence, Chateau Miraval, which was renovated by Jacques Rouché in 1977, and where AC/DC, Sting, Pink Floyd, Sherday, Wham! and others, but it has not been used for the last 20 years. In 2021, however, Brad Pitt will partner with renowned music producer Damien Quintard to renovate and restore the legendary Miraval Studio in the summer of 2022, preserving the valuable recording equipment from the 1970s and introducing the latest analog/digital hybrid equipment designed by Pitt and Quintard. The legendary Miraval Studio was renovated and restored in the summer of 2022.
