Cut Worms, the project of Brooklyn-based singer/songwriter/musician Max Clarke, releases a new self-titled album on Jagjaguwar! The album Cut Worms is a response to Clarke's sprawling double LP Nobody Lives Here Anymore (2020), recorded in Memphis, where he continues his exploration of "pop essentialism." While writing the new songs, Clarke challenged himself to strip away the extraneous and cling to the essence of what makes a song strong. In the production process, he left behind legendary studios and popular producers to work with talented friends and collaborators. A more homegrown approach was implemented and the entire album was adorned with a variety of approaches, as opposed to recording the entire album collectively in one studio. Three of the songs on the record were recorded from start to finish in Clarke's communal rehearsal space.Two tracks were recorded in Brooklyn by brothers Brian/Michael D'Addorio of The Lemon Twigs (they also play piano and bass on these two tracks, respectively). Basic tracking was done by Rick Spataro of Florist, with the participation of Cut Worms' longtime live band, at his Hudson Valley studio, Onlyness Analog.
