Description:

Jared Mattson is a member of the psychedelic jazz fusion duo The Mattson 2. He released his debut solo album, Peanut, on Toro y Moi's label, Company Records. San Diego-based guitarist/songwriter Jared Mattson will release his debut solo album, Peanut, on Company Records, Chaz Bear's (Toro y Moi) label under Carpark Records Jared is, known as one of The Mattson 2, a psychedelic jazz fusion duo with his twin brother Jonathan. The Mattson 2 released a collaborative album with Chaz Bundick (Chaz Bear) called Star Stuff in 2017 with the Release. The album reached #1 on Billboard's Contemporary Jazz Chart, putting them in the limelight. Most recently, they co-wrote the single "Millenium" from Toro y Moi's 2022 album MAHAL.Like many solo debut albums by musicians in the band, Peanut was not originally born out of a need to break out; as the composer of The Mattson 2, Jared spent the winter of 2019-2020 working on new songs. However, when the pandemic broke out, Jared was confined to his home studio to write songs, and the album became the work of The Mattson 1, not The Mattson 2. The lyrics of "Please Come Here," the first single from the album, are sung in Japanese, but every note of the song is played with a sense of meaning that transcends language, and the vocals are cathartic as the song explores resonant themes of solitude and silence ( The Mattson 2 has toured Japan 20 times and covered many Japanese pop songs on 2018's Vaults of Eternity: Japan).Other highlights on the album include "Burn Down Babylon," a cover of Ween's "She Wanted to Leave," and others, which unfold like a series of mesmerizing clouds. Each song, however, changes as it floats along, with no need to rush. And most notably, they carry their own unique charge.
