Dondedon is an ensemble formed by Japan's leading Latin musicians. This group was created by musicians' musicians active in the Latin and jazz scenes—Hitoshi Kashio, Fumito Hirata, Kazutoshi Shibuya, Ippei Morofuji, and Yoshinori Nomi—to further refine the Latin music they have pursued as their life's work. Their previous work showcased the finest Latin jazz and fusion, where Latin swing sparkled within smooth performances. This new album represents a deeper, more profound evolution of Dondedon's sonic world. The title track, imbued with the wish to serve as sustenance for overcoming difficulties and moving forward step by step, is a beautiful and memorable piece featuring Hirata's piano and Kashiwa's saxophone. The following second track evokes the vintage feel of the 1930s, the heyday of rumba. Nomi's seasoned bongo solo midway through is truly masterful. The third track playfully incorporates dance-style rhythms. The fifth track fully embraces the so-called "Afro" rhythms of Cuba, celebrating rhythm to the fullest. Furthermore, the album boldly integrates samba and tango rhythms into Latin jazz, among other elements.Of course, smooth Latin jazz is also seamlessly woven in. Packed with even more ideas than the previous work, it keeps you listening to the entire CD from start to finish. And enveloping the whole album is a high-quality lounge vibe.
