The breathtaking “Vanitas,” which won the Gold Prize at the National Competition, and the delicate nuances in Toshi Kaneda’s works are simply magnificent. During the “Aida” band segment, the use of the rare “Aida trumpet” brought the audience to its feet. Furthermore, with Hiroshi Hoshina as guest conductor, the orchestra presented his own works with rich expression. The powerfully compelling performance of “The Three-Cornered Hat” was magnificent, as the Kanda University of International Studies’ rich, resonant sound was elevated by an added layer of passion.
