Celebrating the 50th anniversary of their debut, the rock band THEALFEE has continued to make a lasting impact not only on the music scene but on the entertainment industry as a whole. A 4K-remastered Blu-ray release is now available featuring their massive outdoor concert held in 1986 in the area then known as “Tokyo Bay Reclamation Site No. 13” (now the Odaiba district). The concert took place on August 3, 1986, and drew a crowd of 92,500 people. Hailed at the time as “Japan’s first solo concert to draw 100,000 people,” it had a profound impact on the very nature of live entertainment in an era when large-scale outdoor music festivals were not yet commonplace. It is now widely recognized throughout the entertainment industry as a legendary performance that has gone down in Japanese concert history. The highlight is the dramatic performance by the three young musicians as they move freely across the massive stage set—120 meters wide and 75 meters high—which symbolizes the sheer scale of the live show. The moving encore, “ROCKDOM—Blown by the Wind,” sung in unison, resonates deeply. We have restored this footage of a groundbreaking concert held 40 years ago to the highest possible quality through technical collaboration between NHK and Coup, creating a high-definition remastered version that captures the full sense of presence.
