Visionary artist Kereela, known for her captivating futuristic sound, releases her third album, *newavatar*!! Featuring an all-star lineup of guests including Pink Pantheres and A.K. Paul! Visionary artist Kelerra, who has built a unique, futuristic worldview by seamlessly fusing soul, dance, jazz, and R&B while navigating between club culture and the underground, has released her third album, *newavatar*, via Warp Records. To coincide with the album’s release, the single “linknb”—produced by Oscar Scheller, the up-and-coming producer behind works by Pink Pantheress and Lily Allen—is a natural next step heralding the start of a new chapter for Kelerra. Reportedly born during a creative slump, this track was written as a mantra to pull herself back into the creative process. Centered around intricately intertwined guitar riffs and heavy drum sounds, the song expresses the confidence gained through adversity and a refusal to downplay her own worth. The music video was directed by Mischa Notcutt. Bringing in Mischa—a close friend who has served as creative director on her past projects—was a natural choice this time as well. The visuals, which blend realism with abstract expression, transform a solitary journey into a meditation on self-discovery and rebirth. They place Kerela at the center of an urban dreamscape, capturing her as she moves with unwavering will and purpose. "newavatar" is a work that can be described as the culmination of everything Kerela has built up to this point. Having started writing her first songs in the Washington, D.C. indie scene, and eventually seeing club music and electronic music become the core of her career, she unites her origins and her present in this work. Distorted guitars intertwine with R&B, coexisting with new intersections of dance music, crystallizing the sounds drawn from every place she has musically inhabited. The album also features collaborations with Pink Pantheres, A.K. Paul, and Foushee. My roots as a singer-songwriter and artist lie behind the catharsis I experienced while creating *newavatar*. I first started writing songs in a punk house. The indie scene I was part of back then provided a space for experimentation, allowing me to explore the intersections of genres I heard in my head. The young people there didn’t care about doing things perfectly, so we never spent too much time on a single song. Honestly, what mattered most was embracing failure, adopting an “I don’t care” attitude, and dismantling the obsession with perfection. Thanks to that, I was freed from pressure, and my initial vision as an artist blossomed. I took the same approach with this work. Moving forward with a strong intention, while capturing the freedom and natural impulses that ignited my artistic journey. What you’ll receive from this album is another facet of my world, expressed with a newfound level of conviction. Sometimes it takes the form of love and devotion; other times, it takes the form of anger. —Kellera
