Squid, who debuted with Warp in 2021 and have gained popularity for their exciting sound that breaks new ground in post-punk, have released their third album, "Cowards. Cowards" is their third album, and is scheduled to be released in 2022. Cowards" was produced over a six-month period from November 2022 to April 2023. This means that songwriting, recording, and other preparations were underway before the release of the previous album, "O Monolith," and one cannot help but be surprised by the band's vigorous creative spirit. Instead of "Real World" in rural Wiltshire, the studio was "The Church" in London, run by Paul Epworth and recorded with Mercury Prize-winning producers Marta Sarroni and Grace Banks. This change in environment also seems to have influenced the mood of this third album. The mixing was done by John McEntire of Tortoise, as on the previous album.Dan Carey, with whom they have collaborated in the past, provides support in the form of adjunct production. In addition to the five musicians, percussionist Xanz Dagan, who played a major role in the previous album, will again participate in the recording. The recording also features the return of percussionist Zanz Duggan, who played a major role in the previous album, as well as the strings of the Luigi Quartet, a new dimension to the album since Arthur is also a cellist. The chorus by Rosa Brook, Tony Njoku, and Clarissa Connelly adds to the album's somewhat meditative tone and overall compositional structure. (1/2)
