Description:
The world-famous Quantic launches a live band project, this time focusing on jazz. Will Holland, aka Quantick, has the most insatiable appetite for music of anyone. He has released over 15 albums, ranging from electronic solo works, to full funk/soul bands with live instruments, to the Quantik Soul Orchestra and Combo Barbaro, to Latin, African, and Caribbean styles, and has earned a reputation as one of the most important pioneers in the contemporary music scene. In early 2014, Quantic moved from Colombia to New York City, where he rediscovered his passion for instrumental jazz and soul records with an emphasis on studio ensembles, while at the same time paying homage to traditional live recording production methods. to pay homage to the traditional live recording method, and at the same time, to collaborate again with many of the musicians he had worked with in Los Angeles, he launched a new live project, The Western Trancient. This time around, the band is just as gorgeous and super authentic as its members. In addition to percussionist Wilson Viveros and saxophonist Sylvester Onyedziaka, who are well-known for their work on Quantik, the group will also feature trumpeter Todd Simon, who has earned the trust of the likes of Antibalas, Blakestra, Rae, Seu Giorgi, and many others, as well as electric piano player Brandon Simon. The group also features Brandon Coleman, an electric piano player who has been tapped by Kendrick Lamar, Flying Lotus, Kamasi Washington, and other stars of the new West Coast jazz scene, as well as bassist Gabe Noel, who is also recognized by Michel Ndegeocello, The band is made up of a group of musicians whom Quantic admires greatly: percussionist Alan Leitner, a member of Build an Arc and a member of Mulatu Astatuke's works, and bassist Gabe Noel, who is also recognized by Michel Ndegeocello. The recording was done with great attention to detail, using an AMPEX 16-track reel-to-reel tape recorder. The artwork and booklet, beautifully designed by Stephen Serrato (Flying Lotus), features photographs taken by filmmaker B+ and includes a commentary by Quantick himself and details on the equipment used for the album.
