The long-awaited 7-inch release! kurayamisaka continues to sing of “loss” and “the end of summer.” Letting their thoughts wander to the passing season, they weave the loneliness of parting into their thunderous sound and melodies—as if possessed, always and forever. It’s been nearly five years since their formation. As “the band whose live tickets are currently the hardest to get,” they’re in the midst of a meteoric rise—they surely haven’t had a moment to pause amid the changing seasons, yet they’ve always embraced summer at full speed. Yes, ever since that day when they shook the music scene with “farewell”—the song that marked the beginning of their career, in which they hummed, “Summer lay in the shadows, days flowed by, and long hair swayed” and “If you saw me, having forgotten even you, would you laugh?” Their widely acclaimed debut album, *kurayamisakayoriaiwokomete*, also centered on the themes of “loss” and “the end of summer.” “modifyYouth,” which sings, “Summer’s over, yet I’m still eating shaved ice”; “nameless,” a song about an August escape; and “jitensha,” about pedaling a bicycle aimlessly on a summer day, weighed down by a sense of melancholy with nowhere to turn… Even while drawing so heavily on summer as a subject, in “evergreen” they flash a wistful smile as they sing, “Summer isn’t enough, is it?” and play dazzling, bittersweet guitar rock. The thought that this is a farewell to the passing scenery makes it suddenly feel precious and tugs at the heartstrings, but as long as they continue to sing about the end of summer, this band’s summer will never truly end. And so, in the new song “summerfilm,” released in the summer of 2026, the “I” in the lyrics lets their thoughts wander to that “scene of heading toward the end of summer,” etched into a memory called “film.” Has the “you” with whom I laughed and waved goodbye already faded into the distant past?
