The latest release from Joel Pike's solo unit Tiny Leaves, which has received rave reviews for its tour support of Brooklyn diva Juliana Berwick, is now available. Tiny Leaves, who have been musically active over the past few years, including a support act for Victory For The Sullen, took over a year to produce this album. The inspiration for this album came from the Welsh expression Cynefin, which means "familiar surroundings," and it is a piece that has been painstakingly crafted. The project began with an idea Joel had in Sprocher, a rural village in central England. He worked with musicians from the area to complete the project. Inspired by various genres of music such as post-rock and classical, Joel took on the challenge of composing an album with four songs totaling over 40 minutes in length. Working with a violinist who also has a background in jazz and folk influenced the sound-making of this album.The song "Cynefin" (M4) was performed by Juliana Berwick as the opening act on her UK tour. The impressive music video, choreographed by up-and-coming London dancer/choreographer Rachel Burn, fully expresses the worldview of this album and is a must-see. The Skinny", a UK-based live review site, said of Tiny Leaves' performance on this tour, "His piano playing evokes a luxurious space, and his sensitive and dramatic musicality is a perfect match for the film. The BBC should offer it immediately. Don't miss this album, which is worthy of one of the best post-classical artists in the UK.
