In Istanbul, Turkey, a country where no dogs are killed, humans and dogs live together naturally, as if blending into the landscape. In reflection on the sad history of the large-scale extermination of wild dogs in the early 20th century, Turkey is one of the countries where euthanasia and the capture of stray dogs are illegal, and the people's awareness of animal welfare is very high. Director Elizabeth Law, a dog lover who traveled to such a country, happened to meet Zeytin, the dog that would become the main character of the film, and "was attracted by her strong-willed atmosphere and followed her," she says.Filmed almost entirely from the same low angle as the dog's eyes, this film offers a new perspective on the relationship between animals and humans, and won the Best International Documentary Award at Hot Docs Canadian International Documentary Film Festival, one of the leading documentary film festivals in North America. In 2021, the Animal Protection Law will be revised, and the regulations for animal protection will become even stricter in Turkey. In 2012, a bill to house stray cats and dogs under the guise of "animal welfare" was considered, but the people of Istanbul protested with demonstrations. In the end, the bill was withdrawn. This film provides an intimate look at the relationship between humans and dogs in such a country.
