Description:
This is the OEHMS debut album by Sophie-Mayuko Fetter, a female pianist with a German father and a Japanese mother. Although she is known primarily as a specialist in contemporary music, she has previously recorded Brahms for the HAENSSLER label, offering a glimpse into her wide-ranging repertoire. For this recording, she performs two piano concertos by Mozart (1756–1791), along with two short pieces accompanied by violin, prepared as encores. In fact, she had been studying the performance practices of historical keyboard instruments, such as the harpsichord, under Edith Picht-Aksenfeld until the year of Picht-Aksenfeld’s death, and she brings an excellent interpretation to her Mozart performances as well. The violinist accompanying her is Rainer Kusmaul, who is also her teacher. A master musician, he served as concertmaster of the Berlin Philharmonic in the 1990s while also devoting himself to the study of early music performance practices; he is also the music director of the Berlin Baroque Soloists, which he founded in 1995.
