Description:

Barragán [Includes. Paul Schoenfield(1947-2024):Trio for clarinet, violin and piano Claude Vivier(1948-1983):Pieces for violin and clarinet Bartók:Kontrasts (Trio for clarinet, violin and piano) Bloch/Thomas Beyer:Prayer Eden Erbe / Frank Dupree (arr: Nature Boy*) Beulah Kovács/arr. by Frank Dupree: Greetings from the Balkans*. Performed by. Noah Wirtzfoot (violin) Pablo Barragan (Clarinet) Frank Dupree (Piano) Anton Spronk (cello)* (CD) 56'49 This work is a trio of clarinet, violin, and piano works, condensing a diverse world musical journey into a single album. The main work is the Clarinet, Violin, and Piano Trio by American composer Paul Schoenfield, who died in April 2024. His works are known for their fusion of various genres such as classical, jazz, and world music.Next is "Pieces for Violin and Clarinet" by Canadian-born Claude Vivier. Vivier was involved in an incident and died young, and is known for his sensationalism. He studied under Stockhausen, and this piece is also avant-garde in its pursuit of sound expression. Then there is Bartók's "Contrasts," dedicated to jazz clarinet virtuoso Benny Goodman and Szigeti. The piece is impressive for its complex rhythms, rich harmonies, and dynamic Hungarian folk motifs typical of Bartók. Finally, three arranged works are also recorded, including Bloch's "Prayer," arranged by Thomas Beyer, and Frank Dupree's arrangement of hippie pioneer Eden Erbe's classic "Nature Boy" and Beulah Kovács' "Greetings from the Balkans," giving the album a fresh and engaging look. The musicians are Noah Wiltshoot, a Dutch violinist who is a treasured son of Anne-Sophie Mutter; Pablo Barragan, a Spanish clarinetist who has been recognized by Barenboim as a player in the West-Eastern Divan Orchestra; and a pianist who also participates as an arranger, Pablo Barragan, a Spanish clarinetist who has played with the West-Eastern Divan Orchestra, and Frank Dupree, a pianist who also arranges for the orchestra.
