The "Magnificat" of Father and Son Bach Performed by Gechinger Kantorai led by RademannC.P.E. Bach was the second son of the great Bach, and among his brothers, he had a particular respect for his father Bach's music. The Magnificat, which he wrote in 1749, is said to have been written in the hope that he would succeed his great father, Bach, as the music director of Leipzig's Thomas Church. Emanuel eventually became the successor to his great father, Bach. In the end, Emanuel did not succeed in this position, but his style, such as the choral fugue at the end, is reminiscent of his father's Bach, and may have been an appeal for his competence as his father's successor. At the same time, Emanuel's Magnificat was directly compared to his father's works. j.s. bach became Thomas cantor in 1723 at the age of 38. His first major work after his appointment was the Magnificat BWV 243. This recording features two "Magnificats" by Bach father and son, conducted by Gehringer Kantorai and Hans-Christoph Rademann in December 2020.It was performed with an excellent group of soloists, but unfortunately in an empty hall, and the performance was streamed live.
