The Requiem, Bruckner's first large-scale vocal work, performed by the spirited conductor Ucas Borowicz, the RIAS Chamber Choir, and the Berlin Academy of Ancient Music On March 14, 1849, at the age of just 24, Bruckner composed his first large-scale vocal work, the Requiem in D minor. The "Requiem" was written in March of the following year to mourn the death (September 15, 1848) of Franz Seiler, a benefactor from his days as an assistant teacher at St. Florian's. The first performance took place at St. Florian's Abbey on the first anniversary of Seiler's death. It is a masterpiece of Bruckner's early years, with a style reminiscent of the baroque and pre-classical music that influenced the young Bruckner, but with orchestration and melody reminiscent of his later masterpieces, and with the piety that comes from the deep sadness of his benefactor's death. In addition to the Requiem, this album also includes some of his early vocal works. Like "Missa Solemnis" released last year, this album is performed by the RIAS Chamber Choir, the Berlin Academy of Ancient Music, and Polish conductor Wukasz Borowicz.The soloist is Johanna Winkel, who performed the role of Gerhilde in "Die Walkure" conducted by Thielemann at the 2017 Salzburg Easter Festival. Mezzo-soprano Sophie Hermsen is a mezzo-soprano of the moment who has been touring the world's theaters as a Mozart singer. Michael Pfeiffer, a tenor with a beautiful voice from Basel. Ludwig Mittelhammer, who was a boy soprano in the Tölz Boys Choir and is currently active as a baritone in a wide range of operas and recitals, is one of the leading singers of our time. By reexploring these early works such as "Requiem" and "Missa solemnis," the program is like a journey into Bruckner by Bruckner himself. was born in Warsaw in 1977 and studied at the Frederic Chopin Academy of Music in Warsaw under Bogusław Mahdi and Antoni Vito. During the 2005-2006 season he was assistant to Kazimierz Kord at the Polish National Opera in Warsaw.In 2006, he was appointed Principal Guest Conductor of the Poznań Philharmonic Orchestra. He is the recipient of several grants from the Ministry of Culture. He has been awarded several grants from the Ministry of Culture and has won prizes in four conducting competitions: Trento (1999), Athens (2000), Porto (2002), and Bamberg (2004). He has also received the "Passport" prize from Politica Weekly (2008), as well as the Polish Music Prize (2011), the Norvid Prize (2013), and the Tansman Prize (2014). King International
