His debut solo album (ACC-30405CD), featuring works ranging from Bach—the pinnacle of unaccompanied violin—to Bartók and Boulez, garnered attention for his performances, which showcase solid technique, musicality, and an inner passion. This album traces the history of unaccompanied violin works by Italian composers. First are the “Six Caprices” by Salvatore Sciarrino, a contemporary Italian master who turned 70 in 2017. Listeners can enjoy Sharino’s unique compositional style, characterized by a delicate, colorful tone and unexpected sounds born of creative imagination. Next is “The Devil’s Trill,” the famously difficult piece by Tartini, a Baroque composer active in 18th-century Italy. Next is the “Sequenza” series, known as the life’s work of Berio, a leading composer of post-World War II avant-garde music. This innovative collection incorporates a wide variety of special playing techniques across different instruments in an exploration of instrumental performance.
