Description:
Michael Folle's "Solo Cantatas for Bass" by J.S. Bach are performed with great stability by the Berlin Academy of Ancient Music and Michael Folle. These three cantatas for bass are masterpieces among Bach's solo cantatas from his Leipzig period. These cantatas are based on texts by Christoph Birkmann [1703-1771]. The authorship of many of Bach's cantatas had been unknown, but in 2015, documents were discovered in a Nuremberg library, and it was discovered that the Nuremberg theologian Christoph Birkmann had written some of the "Third Year Volume" and the "John Passion". The veteran Follett, with his deep, penetrating voice, and the stable and precise ensemble of the Berlin Academy of Ancient Music and the RIAS Chamber Choir make for a slow and deliberate immersion in the music. They also harmonize beautifully with the gorgeous soprano Robin Johansen in Cantata No. 158, BWV 158, "Peace Be with You." King International
