A Faithful Reenactment of the 1786 Charity Concert! C.P.E. Bach—300th Anniversary Concert 2014 marked the 300th anniversary of C.P.E. Bach’s birth. This video captures the commemorative concert held at the Konzerthaus in Berlin in June 2014. It recreates the charity concert conducted by C.P.E. Bach himself on April 9, 1786. The performance features the Berlin Academy of Early Music and the RIAS Chamber Choir, led by Hans-Christoph Rademann, a leading figure in the German choral world. They have already released an album based on the same concept from Harmonia Mundi France, featuring only works by C.P.E. Bach (HMC.902167). Since this release aims to be a complete recreation of the concert, it includes works by J.S. Bach and Handel in addition to those by C.P.E. Bach. The album begins with C.P.E. Bach’s Prelude to the Credo. This piece is a prelude composed specifically to accompany the Credo from his father J.S. Bach’s Mass in B minor. It is a work characteristic of C.P.E. Bach, who held his father in the highest regard. The performance by the Berlin Academy of Early Music and the RIAS Chamber Choir, which makes full use of the Berlin Konzerthaus’s rich, resonant acoustics, exudes a resolute clarity and power. Next, from Handel’s *Messiah*, Christina Landschammer showcases her beautiful voice in “I know that my Redeemer lives,” followed by the Hallelujah Chorus. You can enjoy Handel’s vibrant and cheerful musical ideas. The program concludes with C.P.E. Bach’s masterpiece, the Symphony in D major; the grand “Magnificat”; and the motet “Holy God,” which showcases his masterful compositional techniques. King International
