The Almyda String Quartet is at the forefront of musical innovation—serving as consultants for Henle’s new critical edition of Mozart’s complete string quartets—and actively engages in close collaboration between performers and musicologists. By consulting Mozart’s original scores, they have uncovered previously overlooked details and are now able to interpret each passage in exciting, new ways. Named after an opera by Haydn, the “father of the string quartet,” and founded in Berlin in 2006, the Almeida String Quartet won First Prize and the Audience Prize at the 2012 ARD International Music Competition in Munich, as well as six other awards, launching their brilliant career as a quartet. From 2014 to 2016, they were selected as “New Generation Artists” by the BBC. To date, they have released about 10 CDs, primarily on the C’Avi label. Among these, their Mozart string quartet series has received particularly high acclaim: Volume 3 (8553032) was selected for BBC Music Magazine’s “Instrumental Choice,” and Volume 4 (8553205) won the Opus Classical Award “Chamber Music” and “Classical Without Borders,” and Volume 5 (8553496) was selected for Record Geijutsu’s “Overseas Releases Review Special Selection,” among other accolades, receiving particularly high acclaim.
