Trio Image, the young ensemble that created a sensation with their complete piano trio recording of Mauricio Kargel (which won the 2014 ECHO Award for best premiere recording of the year), presents a collection of works from Eastern Europe. Including Dvořák's Op.65, the Trio Imaje brilliantly portrays the charms of rarely performed piano trios. Siegfried Fal is the younger brother of Leo Fal, famous for his operettas, and a Moravian composer who studied with Bruch and Herzogenberg. While his father and two brothers were operetta composers, Siegfried tended to write more serious works; his Piano Trio, Op. 4, is a compelling work full of striking musical ideas and won the Mendelssohn Composition Prize. The members of Trio Image were thrilled to have stumbled upon Siegfried Fal's score and to have it in their repertoire. They said, "Despite being an early work by an almost forgotten composer, it contains a series of remarkable, imaginative ideas and innovations.
