A collection of Beethoven’s clarinet trios combining original works and arrangements! The series of meticulously curated Beethoven anniversary albums by Germany’s C’avi continues. This time, it’s a collection of works for clarinet trio—featuring clarinet, cello, and piano—including an original Beethoven piece for this ensemble (“The Town Song,” which incorporates a melody from Joseph Weigl’s operetta), works that Beethoven himself arranged from septets into trios, and a piece arranged from a collection of bagatelles for piano by the contemporary German composer Johannes Scheerhorn (b. 1962)—all woven into a triple-layered program. On clarinet is Kilian Herold, a virtuoso who became principal clarinetist of the Deutsche Kammerphilharmonie Bremen at the young age of 23 and has served as principal clarinetist of the SWR Symphony Orchestra Baden-Baden and Freiburg since 2011. He is joined by the brother duo of Peter-Philipp Stemmler—solo cellist with the hr Symphony Orchestra (Frankfurt Radio Symphony Orchestra) and a member of the Almidia Quartet—and his younger brother, Hans-Jakob Stemmler.
