Daniel Heide Kicks Off His Solo Recording Project! A solo recording by Daniel Heide, renowned as a celebrated accompanist! Beethoven’s Middle Period Piano Sonatas! Daniel Heide, a pianist from Weimar, is one of the most sought-after lieder accompanists and chamber musicians of his generation, having begun his career in collaboration with André Schuen. After studying under Ludwig Betzel at the Franz Liszt Academy of Music in his hometown, and following pioneering suggestions from Christa Ludwig and Dietrich Fischer-Dieskau, he has been performing concerts throughout Europe and Asia. The 2020 COVID-19 pandemic created unexpected free time, leading Daniel Heide to turn his attention anew to Beethoven’s vast sonatas—the subject of his “Beethoven Volume 1.” From his mother—a pianist and singer who was also his first teacher—he learned the names of great Beethoven interpreters such as Wilhelm Kempff, Edwin Fischer, Wilhelm Backhaus, Walter Gieseking—and the first CD he ever purchased was Gieseking’s 1965 recording of Beethoven’s Sonatas Op. 13, Op. 14, and Op. 27.
