Cellist Tanya Tetlauf is the sister of renowned violinist Christian Tetlauf, and like him, she is one of Germany’s leading string players, enjoying a globally acclaimed career. Tanya Tetlauf’s recording of J.S. Bach’s Unaccompanied Cello Suites—often referred to as the “Bible of the cello”—includes the last three suites (Nos. 4–6), as well as the pieces “Cracks” and “Clouds,” composed by Torsten Enke (b. 1966)—who is active in a wide range of roles as a German cellist, composer, and conductor—has dedicated to Tanya Tetzlaff. Inspired by ice skating and written for unaccompanied cello and tape, these works present a soundscape entirely distinct from Bach’s, yet they are interwoven with the three suites in a way that lends a fresh perspective to Bach’s compositions.
