The long-awaited fifth volume of Peter Rusicka's orchestral works! Peter Rusicka (b.1948), a leading contemporary German composer and conductor, is the director of the Hamburg State Opera, the Hamburg Philharmonic Orchestra, and the Salzburg Festival, as well as a professor at the Hamburg University of Music and Drama. The four concertos on this album were composed during the decade after 2011, when the Covid-19 pandemic was slowing down cultural activities, and "Departure" and "Enveloped by Darkness," written during the period of the Covid-19 pandemic, are based on poems by Paul Zeran, a German-Jewish poet to whom Ruzicka has dedicated several operas and symphonies in the past. Both are world premiere recordings of works based on the poetry and words of Paul Czeran, a German-Jewish poet to whom Ruzicka has devoted herself. Aulodie," written for the Berlin Philharmonic's principal oboe player, Albrecht Mayer, who is also the soloist in this recording, is a stimulating work that challenges the limits of the instrument and its players and places extremely high demands on them in every respect.Silence," which at first glance seems an unlikely title for a trombone concerto, represents not only acoustic but also spiritual "stillness," and is a world premiere recording of a work that contains deep insights similar to Ives' "Unanswered Questions.
