Description:
This work, *The Music of the Angels (Lamusica degli angeli)*, is a collection of pieces inspired by the interior decorations of Gut Hohen-Luckow, a Baroque mansion dating from around 1709 located in the Mecklenburg region. Ercole Nizzini (b. 1971), who served as the site’s first artist-in-residence from 2024 to 2025, drew inspiration from the emblems adorning the Knights’ Hall—which depict themes of love, faith, and morality— allegories of the four seasons, and stucco angels holding musical instruments to compose new music. Taking Baroque music as its starting point while incorporating contemporary harmonies and rhythms, this is the world premiere recording of the complete work, which brings the mansion’s imagery and narratives to life through sound. Born in Viterbo, Italy, and raised in Rome, Nizzini studied modern and historical trombone. After performing with orchestras in Turin and Milan, he has pursued a unique career centered on historically informed performance and composition. This album features *Four Emblems*, which transforms allegories of love into songs in Latin, German, French, and Italian; *The Four Seasons*, which layers the seasonal sensations of his youth spent in Rome; and dance pieces depicting the movements of stucco angels, all performed by a unique ensemble consisting of tenor, Renaissance trombone, theorbo, harp, organ, and historical percussion.
