A collection of pop pieces performed by a promising young percussionist! The German Music Competition, launched in 1975, is a state-sponsored music competition and a prestigious stepping stone for young musicians, equivalent to Japan’s “Japan Music Competition.” Percussionist Alexei Gerasimet, born in 1987, has already won numerous awards at competitions and has appeared as a soloist in concerts with the Berlin Radio Symphony Orchestra. This CD features works by relatively young composers, including some of his own compositions. Many of these pieces—such as those by Steve Reich and Graham Fitkin—are accessible and popular works in the minimalist style or incorporate pop and ethnic elements into minimalist compositions.
