Description:

In 1954, Martineau visited the Greek writer Kazankis, who was staying in Antibes near Nice, and asked him for permission to adapt "The Story of the Re-Crucifixion of Christ" into a script. After a year of work on the script and another four years of composition, "The Greek Passion Play" was originally scheduled to be performed at the Royal Opera, but this was not possible, and after some revisions, it was premiered at the Zurich State Opera in 1961, conducted by Paul Sacher. Although the opera was highly acclaimed, it has been lying dormant since then with few chances to be performed.
