Wagner (1813-1883)
Description:
Winner of the 2006 Conductor of the Year Award from the German music magazine "Opernwelt" (Opera World), Simone Young is the first female conductor to lead the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra, and the first female conductor to lead the Hamburg State Opera as its Intendant and Music Director of the Philharmonic, The Hamburg State Opera is now an opera house that continues to perform at a very high level, and is an institution to keep an eye on. In addition to opera, Hamburg Opera has a strong concert repertoire, and has already established a reputation for creating music from Wagner to Messiaen in a profound style that makes for a rewarding listening experience. In a series of Bruckner recordings, he has been described as "not only profound, but also precise Bruckner that perfectly fulfills the demands of an orchestra that pays attention to detail. In the opening night of this series, "Gold of the Rhine," he also said, "This is the only album that perfectly expresses the music on CD (sound) alone, while recently there have been many rings with video recordings released. The entire cast is of the highest Wagnerian caliber. This production of "Die Walküre" is the second in a three-year run of the complete "Ring" production directed by Klaus Guth at the Hamburg Opera House, and once again Simone Young's carefully considered and detailed performance is a perfect match for the modern and graphically pleasing production. The singers are not only the recently popular Farukh Strookman's Wotan and Deborah Polaski, but also the rest of the cast, whose eye-catching dramas are full of charm. Includes 128 pages of commentary & libretto (German & English only) with extensive stage color photos. [Commentary courtesy of Sony Music] ---.
