Adrian Willaert (1490?–1562) was a composer from Flanders who emigrated to Italy, where he laid the foundation for the Venetian school and established the polyphonic style of the Flemish school in Venice, making him a leading figure of his generation. Furthermore, as he served as Kapellmeister at St. Mark’s Basilica in Venice, he was among the most influential figures in Europe at the time. His works, written with sophisticated techniques that conceal exquisitely intricate melodic lines within seemingly simple polyphony, were highly popular in his day but have since been largely forgotten. Singer Poa is dedicated to reviving Villart’s works, and on their previously released album, *Madregale Collection: Poems by Francesco Petrarca* (OC814), they delivered a magnificent ensemble performance.
