A mezzo-soprano born in Kehmgau, Bavaria, Germany. This is Stephanie Illani’s solo album. She is an up-and-coming soprano who enrolled at the Munich University of Music and Performing Arts in 1997, won first prize at the Robert Schumann International Competition held in Zwickau in 2004, and graduated in 2006 with an Excellence Award. She is a talented artist who has performed art song recitals with pianist Helmut Deutsch both in Germany and abroad; in 2005, she also visited Japan as a soloist in the “St. Matthew Passion” conducted by Peter Schreier in Kanazawa. She has released a few CDs to date, but unfortunately, none of them are satisfying enough to listen to over and over again. This latest release, titled “Lamenti,” fully conveys her charm. Her expressive singing, tinged with restrained sorrow, is supported by Hofstetter. Please also enjoy the orchestra’s lustrous sound. Naxos Japan
