A Summer Night's Dream" Overture Op.21 was written by Mendelssohn when he was just 17 years old and was intended as a piano overture for Mendelssohn to enjoy with his sister Fanny. Later, the overture was arranged for orchestra and published in 1843 as the dramatic music "A Summer Night's Dream," Op.61. In fact, it had already been composed and published for duet four years earlier. Music was the most common medium of communication in middle-class households during this period. However, most families did not have two pianos, and so the genre of "duet" was extremely versatile, being used by "piano teachers and students," "students practicing together," and "for entertainment at home and in social gatherings. Furthermore, Mendelssohn had already composed a version for duet before the orchestral version and promoted it in European theaters.The Silver-Gerberg Piano Duo was born in Israel, studied in Tel Aviv, and graduated from the Hanover College of Music with the highest honors.
