German black/thrash metal band HELLISHCROSSFIRE’s 2010 second album has been reissued by HIGHROLLER. Based on recordings from 2009, the mixing and mastering were handled by Patrick W. Engel at Temple of Disharmony. No changes have been made to the songs themselves for this reissue, which faithfully preserves the original raw sound. The sound is rooted in old-school black/thrash, characterized by aggressive guitar work centered on sharp tremolo riffs and thrash-style chugging. While the songs are structured around high-speed, driving sections, they do not rely solely on speed; instead, they shine with compositional skill that maintains tension by skillfully weaving in riff developments and breaks. The raw, distorted guitar sound retains a strong sense of 90s black/thrash, yet the sound separation is relatively good, and the rhythm section’s presence is firmly established. The vocals shift between hysterical shouts and rough, death-thrash-style growls, adding a savage intensity to the songs. The bass stays tight with the guitars while reinforcing the low end, and the drums propel the songs forward by alternating between blast-beat-style high-speed rhythms and the fast-paced patterns characteristic of thrash. Overall, while retaining the primitive momentum of their debut, the arrangements feel more polished, demonstrating that the band’s musicality has taken a step forward. This is an old-school-oriented black/thrash release that strikes a balance between raw aggression and structural sophistication.
