The demo *HellspeedDeath*, released in 2022 by the Mexican speed/thrash metal band PHANTOM, has been reissued by HighRollerRecords. Released in January 2026 via TEMPLE OF DISHARMONY, this collector’s edition features a remaster by Patrick W. Engel and includes two bonus tracks. The album is brimming with the raw charm typical of a demo, exploding with a ferocious sound where rough-sounding drums, gritty vocals, and razor-sharp guitars come together as one. While heavily influenced by ’80s old-school acts like Slayer, Venom, Tank, Motorhead, and Voivod, the band’s youth and aggression—which go beyond mere imitation—are etched into the music as a powerful, distinctive character. In “Payback,” “Reaper’s Bane,” and “Death Crusade,” punk-infused, high-speed thrash races along with exhilarating intensity, while “Onslaught” and “Speedhammer” unleash high-speed attacks cloaked in black-metal-style malevolence. The album also includes a cover of VENOM’s classic “Witching Hour,” directly showcasing the band’s roots. Combined with their underground-oriented approach that embraces dark themes such as war, revenge, and horror, this is an excellent release packed with the early passion and DIY spirit of the young PHANTOM. It is a crucial demo that captures the origins leading up to their later debut album, *Handed to Execution* (2023).
