Live Recording of the German Premiere of Symphony No. 1 by Greece’s Greatest Composer, Theodorakis A live recording of the German premiere of Mikis Theodorakis’s *Symphony No. 1*, held nearly 70 years after its premiere in Athens. The seething sounds that permeate the work speak to the suffering, hope, and thirst for freedom the composer felt when he wrote it at the age of 25 on the island of Makronissos, where he was in exile. Contrasting with this is conductor Ektaras Tartanis’s own first symphonic work, *Erato Psaltrian*. Composed for baritone, harp, and orchestra, the work consists of three movements: “Creation,” “Journey,” and “Celebration.” Tartanis invites us into the world of Greek mythology, the tradition of Byzantine chant, and contemporary soundscapes. This work was written for Annelien Renaerts, principal harpist of the Vienna Philharmonic, and was performed alongside the internationally acclaimed Swedish baritone Kosma Lanuel Krün. TYXART
