To commemorate the 30th anniversary of the recording of *Buena Vista Social Club*—which became a global phenomenon—it’s being re-released as a limited-edition Pearl Sunrise-colored vinyl! The *Buena Vista Social Club* was a project conceived by three individuals: Cuban bandleader Juan de Marcos González, American producer and guitarist Ry Cooder, and British producer and label owner Nick Gold. The name “Buena Vista Social Club” refers to both this unique group of musicians and the album they recorded. The album was recorded in 1996 at EGREM Studios in Havana—a historic studio founded in the 1950s—in just seven days. Even during the recording sessions, there was a palpable sense that something special was happening. However, no one could have predicted that the album would later become a global phenomenon. *Buena Vista Social Club* won a Grammy Award in 1997 and has sold over 8 million copies to date, becoming an unprecedented hit for a work in its genre. The album’s success catapulted participating artists such as Ibrahim Ferrer, Rubén González, Eliades Ochoa, Compay Segundo, and Omara Portuondo to global stardom. Furthermore, it spawned an award-winning documentary film directed by Wim Wenders and a Tony Award-winning Broadway musical, playing a major role in spreading the rich tradition of Cuban music to the world.
