Timo Lassi, one of the leading artists of the current generation of Finnish jazz, is releasing a new live album with his energetic trio on We Jazz Records. Lassi on tenor saxophone, Ville Herrara on double bass, and Jaska Rukkarinen on drums are each solo artists on We Jazz recordings. Recorded at Helsinki's premier live music spot, G Livelab in 2023, and including new versions of the saxophonist's famous catalog, Live in Helsinki proves why Lassie's local performances are always packed. For those familiar with Timo Lassi's studio work, especially his latest We Jazz release, Trio (2021), the sound of this live recording will sound familiar yet delightfully new. The live sound of the trio is rough and ready, and the rawness of the live performance brings out new aspects of the band. Timo Lassi is a very strong tenor player with a sound all his own, and he doesn't shy away from delivering his message live. It adds more out-of-the-box color than the album. This is a good reason for the live version to be released, and his very strong combo follows suit. The spirit underlying the music of the Timo Lassie Trio is the true friendship of the band members.Throughout the album, it is clear that they play for each other as well as for the audience, pushing and inspiring each other into new territory in a way that reflects togetherness, not competition. This is a sold-out local performance by a band that needs no publicity. They play live jazz from the heart. This is a good enough recipe for building an expanding fan base.
