Steven Julien is the owner of London based music label "Apron Records" and has released his music on Floating Points' label "Eglo Records". He has played in clubs all over the world. In the many clubs he has played around the world, he has always mixed light and dark, soft and hard, yin and yang. From rough house and techno to laid-back soul and boogie, or meditating on his family and musical legacy on his 2018 album Bloodline, Julien's music constantly oscillates between moods, styles, and emotions.!"K7's iconic DJ-Kicks mix series, the eclecticism of which also defines Julian. Featuring tracks by Ryuichi Sakamoto that have never been recorded, DaM-FunK, Todd Edwards, and others that can only be heard on this DJ-Kicks series, Julien takes us on an imaginary journey from day to night. From idyllic afternoons in nature, to hectic household vibes before a big night out, and finally to the euphoric embrace of the dance floor itself. Julian says that he lets his energy and intuition guide his creative approach to DJing in general, and to this mix in particular. It was only after listening back to the finished session that I noticed how often he mixed tracks into keys, creating smooth transitions from one moment to the next. This instinctive approach, where seamless mixing is second nature, is a testament to Julian's decade-long history in DJ booths around the world.As specific inspiration for this mix, he cites sets at Ormside Projects in London, Doka and De School in Amsterdam, and Mitsuki in Tokyo. Julien describes the feeling he tried to capture on tape as an out-of-body energy.
