Jonas Kaufmann (July 10, 1969 - ) is one of the star tenors of our time. To celebrate his 50th birthday, ARTHAUS is releasing a boxed set of three of his best performances from his days at the Zurich Opera. This performance attracted attention as a young up-and-coming tenor in his 30s at the time. Paisiello's opera "Nina, or Love Madness". Nina's father (the Count) is opposed to her marriage to her lover (Lindoro). Nina goes mad, thinking that her lover has died in a duel with a suitor her father has prepared. However, her lover Lindoro returns to her after recovering from his wounds, Nina comes to her senses, and the two are happily married. This is the story of the two lovers. This is a work that is rarely performed, but this video, featuring a superb cast of Cecilia Bartoli and Jonas Kaufmann, reminds us how interesting the work is. Beethoven's opera "Fidelio". Directed by Jurgen Flimm and conducted by Arnoncourt. Kaufmann, who was cast as Florestan in this production, received great acclaim and attention.Camilla Nirnto's lyrical singing as Fidelio (=Leonore, his wife) is also a highlight of the performance. Monteverdi's opera "The Return of Ulisse". It is an important work that marks the beginning of the transition from the Renaissance to the Baroque period, and Arnoncourt's music based on period research makes for a fulfilling performance. Ulisse is played by Dietrich Henschel. Vesselina Kasarova plays the chaste wife awaiting her husband's return. The son, Teremako, is sung by Kaufmann, and the singing team is superb.
