Description:
The title track, the six-movement suite "Road To The Sun," is the highlight of the album, and is performed by the Grammy Award-winning LOS ANGELES GUITAR QUARTET, which Metheny himself highly praises as "one of the best bands in the world. Metheny himself highly praises the quartet as "one of the best bands in the world. When we started writing this song, the guys in LAGQ said they were happy with a 5-7 minute piece. I found myself immersed in the rare opportunity to wonder what it would sound like with four exceptional guitarists playing so many notes. This piece literally came pouring out of me, but as much as I tried to capture what this instrument and these musicians were suggesting, it was important to me to keep the narrative, the storytelling element of the music that I always wanted to reach," Metheny himself says of the piece. After more than 30 years, Pat Metheny has continued to create all kinds of music, not only in the jazz genre.Through their seven albums, the band has won 20 Grammy Awards in 12 different categories. He is the only bandleader to have won this many awards in such a short period of time. His work includes award-winning solo albums, songs for Hollywood, and collaborations with such great artists as Ornette Coleman, Steve Reich, Charlie Haden, and Brad Meldor. In this new album, Metheny proves himself to be one of the most important composers of our time. The album closes with "Arvo Part: Fur Alina," which Metheny himself arranged and performed for 42-string guitar. Pat Metheny was once described by Charlie Haden as a musician who "defies categorization. Here is a masterpiece that will be an inspiration to his generation and to generations to come, not only as a guitarist but also as a composer. (2/2)
